Macro Trend #1 Market Expansion
Wellness Spending Has Outpaced GDP Growth by Over 50% Since 2019
South Africas health, beauty, and personal care category has undergone a structural transformation. From R306bn in 2019 to R465bn in 2024, wellness spending has outpaced broader economic growthclimbing from 5.4% to 6.3% of total GDP. With forecasts projecting up to R550bn by 2026, brands positioned to capture this demand stand to realize outsized growth.

Macro Trend #2 Peak Season Friction
The NovemberJanuary Surge: Velocity Wins the Booking
Consumer intent peaks dramatically between November and January. November represents the highest period for beauty and gifting purchases (up +52% YoY in search queries), while January leads for voucher redemptions. During Black Friday weekend alone, consumer spend exceeds R28bn.
However, as overall consumer household budgets tighten (+1.6% projected real growth), shoppers become hyper-selective. Over 94% of shoppers start hunting for deals before Black Friday, and 75% prefer brands that engage them early. When intent is high, friction is fatal: in a high-demand window, the brand that replies first with a seamless buying experience locks in the revenue.

Macro Trend #3 Strategic Advantage
Meeting Guests Where They Live: The Conversational Imperative
Traditional digital funnelsredirecting social media ads to complex website booking portals or requiring friction-heavy contact formslead to immediate drop-offs. South African consumers live on WhatsApp: over 28 million adults spend an average of 23+ hours per month on the platform, naming it their favorite social app by far (34% preference).
By removing friction and bringing the complete experiencediscovery, selection, instant secure payment, voucher generation, and referralinto a single WhatsApp chat, brands eliminate drop-off points. Moving with this trend allows operators to turn high intent into instant booked revenue, maximizing yield during peak windows while dramatically lowering customer acquisition costs.

Our two roles
It helps to understand the difference between these:
When you deal with us directly (for example, you book a Journey Health Check), we decide why and how your information is used. We are the responsible party and this policy applies in full.
When we build or run a WhatsApp journey for a client, the client's customers message the client's business, and we process those conversations on the client's behalf as an operator under POPIA. In that case, the client is the responsible party, and we process that information only on the client's instructions and under a written agreement. If you are a customer of one of our clients, please read that business's privacy notice.
2. What personal information we collect
Information you give us:
Journey Health Check form: first name, last name, work email address, phone number (with country code), business name and industry.
Direct communication: the content of emails, WhatsApp messages, calls and meetings.
Client engagements: contact details, billing details and contractual information.
WhatsApp-specific information: When you message us on WhatsApp, we receive your WhatsApp phone number, your WhatsApp profile name, the content and time of messages, any media you send, and delivery and read status.
Information we do not want: Please do not send us sensitive information (such as ID numbers, health information, card numbers or passwords) over the website form or WhatsApp. If you do, we will delete it where we reasonably can.
3. Why we use your information
We process personal information only for specific, lawful purposes including responding to enquiries, booking your Journey Health Check, delivering our services, meeting tax and legal obligations, and securing our systems. We will not use your information for a purpose incompatible with the reason we collected it.
4. Marketing and your choices
We will only send electronic marketing if you have opted in, or if you are an existing client and the message relates to similar services with an easy option to opt out. Submitting the Journey Health Check form does not sign you up to an automated newsletter. You can opt out at any time by emailing privacy@orangedoor.co.za or replying STOP on WhatsApp.
5. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where necessary with messaging providers (Meta Platforms / WhatsApp), core secure cloud service providers, professional advisers, and authorities when required by law.
6. Transfers outside South Africa
Some of our providers store or process information outside South Africa. We transfer personal information across borders only where the recipient is subject to law or binding rules providing a level of protection substantially similar to POPIA.
7. How long we keep information
We retain personal information only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected or as required by law (such as 5-year tax and accounting record requirements). When no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.
8. How we protect your information
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to prevent loss, damage, unauthorised access and unlawful processing, including access controls, encryption in transit, and restricted staff access.
9. WhatsApp Policy
When communicating with us on WhatsApp, note that WhatsApp is a third-party service with its own privacy terms (whatsapp.com/legal). Messages are end-to-end encrypted in transit to Meta's platform, but once received on our business systems they are processed securely by authorised staff. You can type "agent" to speak to a person or reply STOP to unsubscribe at any time.
10. Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to request access to your personal information, request corrections or deletions, object to processing, withdraw consent, and lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za). Contact us at privacy@orangedoor.co.za to exercise these rights.
